Daly & Lyon

The Rio’s original name, Kingsland Palace of Animated Pictures, is revived and repurposed to serve as a new statement on the site’s continued relevance as a centre of activity for the surrounding community.

The poster is conceived as two parts, looking in both directions at once: towards an optimistic future, and backwards at the cinema’s expansive history. Part I is screenprinted in luminous, neon yellow, at its most effective when exposed to light, while Part II is a making-of/behind-the-scenes of poster I, a 1:1 photograph of a tiled printout of the design, viewed in negative.
